Mission

The mission of HackData is to create a gender diverse and technologically inclined community. Our goal is to create opportunity for newcomers to explore a hackathon environment while learning and solving compelling problems.There is a special award category for the all women's team that makes the best project! This should surely motivate females to form and work in all women's teams.


About HackData

HackData is one-of-a kind Data Hackathon organized by ACM SNU Chapter in association with Hack Society. It’s a 30 hours event packed with sessions, workshops, networking activities, hacking and pitching your ideas! Build a product using any dataset available in public domain and get a chance to take away loads of swag and prizes! This is the weekend to brainstorm, crunch data and build innovative solutions with hundreds of like-minded developers and business students. Top 5 teams from each track will get a chance to pitch their product and winners will be selected. We have a lot of prizes and swag in store for you. Trade sleep for a long night of turning your ideas into real world solutions in an environment optimised for creativity. We've got you covered for food, stay and internet.


Hackathon Schedule

Order of events

  1. Individuals with different skill sets come together to form a team (maximum of 3 individuals only) and take up one of the challenges.
  2. The teams will work on creating solutions such as visualization, web app or mobile app.
  3. The judge will visit each team, while they are working, and start Pre-Evaluating each team.
  4. Shortlisted teams will have 7 minutes to present their solution
  5. Once again, judges will evaluate each team.
  6. The scores from judges will be tallied

How to Participate?

Registration
A few days later, you will receive an email. The email will instruct to confirm your participation or inform you that the seats are full.
In case it asks you to confirm your participation, follow the instruction to confirm.
In your next email, you will receive an email informing about your confirmation and list of important instructions and information for the hackathon.
After being selected, make sure to select one of the challenges, go through the data provided in the challenge and prepare your ammunitions (laptop, software, hardware, plans etc) for the day.

Impact

How much impact (quality and quantity) can this project have? Does it solve a big problem or a little problem?

Creativity

How creative is the approach? Is the project new and something that hasn’t been attempted before? Is it something that isn’t being addressed by the market?

Product

How well does this project fit the needs of the challenge it addresses? How user friendly is the technology? Is it a complete solution or does it have a long way to go?

Presentation

How well did the team communicate their project? Are they effective in telling the story of the project and why it is important?

Participants are encouraged to submit their solutions under a license that permits the free and open dissemination of the work. Participants are expected to push their final codebase to github.
